Storage Built for University of St Andrews Students

Student Storage that knows the difference between Martinmas and Candlemas.

UniStore Scotland is a Scottish family business that has been moving and storing students’ belongings for nearly fifty years. We’re not a national app routing you through a London call centre — our drivers are local, our warehouse is in Edinburgh, and we know that DRA, ABH and Sallies aren’t typos.

St Andrews is a small town with a big international student community. Around half of all students at the University come from outside the UK, and you don’t want to be lugging suitcases through Edinburgh Airport with airline excess baggage charges of £75 per kilo over your allowance. That’s where we come in.

Whether you’re in halls, in a flat on North Street, or sharing a place out by the East Sands, we’ll come to your door, pick up your boxes, and store everything safely until Candlemas rolls around again. And because we know student budgets are tight, we don’t ask you to pay everything up front — 40% to lock in your booking, the remaining 60% only when we return your your stuff!

We proudly serve students from the University and all colleges in St Andrews.

Key dates for the 2025/26 academic year

International & study-abroad students

Don’t pay airline excess baggage. Store with us instead.

Going home for summer?

Around half the students at St Andrews are international. Shipping boxes to the US, China, Singapore, India or anywhere outside Europe usually costs more than a year of storage with us — and that’s before airline baggage fees of £75 per kilo over allowance.

Pack your room, leave your boxes with us in May, and your stuff will be waiting when you fly back in September. No customs forms, no shipping companies, no risk of your books arriving in pieces.

Studying abroad next semester?

Heading off on a year abroad to Hong Kong, Sciences Po, Berkeley or anywhere else? We can store your belongings for the full duration — 6, 9, 12 months, whatever you need — and have it all back in your new St Andrews accommodation when you return.

We charge per box per week, with full refunds for any unused weeks if you come back early.

FAQs

St Andrews University Student Storage Questions

Display none

The most cost-effective way to store your belongings is usually through a “pay-per-box” storage service rather than renting a full self-storage unit. At UniStore Scotland, we offer budget-friendly packages specifically designed for students, ensuring you only pay for the space you actually use.

Do you collect from David Russell Apartments (DRA) and Fife Park?
Yes. We collect from DRA and Fife Park reception — the largest residential complex in St Andrews with around 1,400 rooms across 5-bed apartments. Our drivers are familiar with the layout and pick up directly from your block’s main entrance. Just tell us which block when you book.
Which St Andrews halls do you collect from?
We collect from every University-managed residence: Agnes Blackadder Hall (ABH), David Russell Apartments (DRA), Fife Park, University Hall, St Salvator’s Hall (Sallies), Gannochy, McIntosh Hall, John Burnet Hall, Whitehorn, Andrew Melville Hall, St Regulus, Powell Hall, Hamilton Hall, Stanley Smith House, Albany Park, Deans Court and Ayton House. We also collect from East Shore, all private student accommodation and private flats throughout the town.
When does Candlemas semester end at St Andrews?
For 2025/26, Candlemas teaching ends Friday 1 May 2026, Semester 2 examinations run from 9 May to 25 May 2026, and the extended examination diet finishes Friday 5 June 2026. Most students need to clear their accommodation in the days following their final exam, so collection slots from mid-May to early June fill up quickly. Graduation week is the week of 29 June.
How much does St Andrews student storage cost?
Storage starts from £1.50 per box per week. You only pay for the exact boxes and weeks you use, with unused weeks refunded. Free double-walled boxes, free packing tape, a free marker pen, free printed labels and free door-to-door collection and redelivery throughout St Andrews and the East Neuk are all included. There are no hidden fees and no minimum contract length.
How does the 40/60 payment split work?
You pay 40% at the time of booking to secure your collection slot, warehouse space and free packing materials. The remaining 60% is collected on the day before we redeliver your belongings — so you only finish paying when you have your things back. We’re the only Scottish student storage company that does it this way, because we think it’s the fairest approach.
I'm an international student flying home for the summer — does that work?
Absolutely — international students are a big part of who we serve at St Andrews. You pack your boxes before exams finish, we collect on the day of your choice, and we hold everything safely in our heated and alarmed Edinburgh warehouse until you’re back in September. No need to ship things home or pay airline excess baggage fees of £75 per kilo. We’ll redeliver to your new accommodation when Martinmas starts.
Can you collect from a flat in town — Market Street, South Street, North Street?
Yes. We cover all of St Andrews — the central streets, Hope Street, Greyfriars Garden, Lade Braes, and the residential streets right out to Lawhead and Kinnessburn. Collection from private flats is from the ground floor or main building entrance.
Can I store bikes, suitcases, golf clubs or large items?
Yes — we store bikes, suitcases, golf clubs (a popular one in St Andrews, naturally), musical instruments, sports equipment and reasonable-sized furniture items alongside boxes. Use our online calculator to get a quote for any combination of items.
Is my stuff safe in storage?
Your belongings are stored inside our centrally located, fully alarmed Edinburgh warehouse — heated and insulated, with 24/7 CCTV. We don’t use outdoor metal containers exposed to the wet Scottish elements. Everything is logged against your order number when it arrives, so nothing gets misplaced.
When should I book to guarantee my storage?
St Andrews is a small town with a concentrated move-out window — late May to early June is intense. Book by early-May for your peace of mind and then focus on your exams. The 40% deposit is fully transferable if your dates change, so there’s no penalty for booking early.
What if my plans change?
That’s exactly why we built our service the way we did. You can change your collection or redelivery date free of charge, and any unused full weeks of storage are refunded. We’re flexible because student plans change — that’s just life.
